Your assessment – a step by step guide
We understand that starting a psychiatric assessment can feel like a big step. This guide explains how the process works, from your first enquiry through to follow-up care.
1. Enquiry and referral
You’re welcome to refer yourself, although a referral from your GP or another healthcare professional can be helpful. We encourage you to share any relevant mental health history, either as part of your referral or separately. This helps us confirm we’re the right service for you and makes best use of your consultation time.
2. Booking your appointment
Once we’ve agreed on a suitable date and time, we’ll confirm your appointment and send a patient registration form by email. This will include either a video link or directions to the clinic, depending on whether your consultation is online or in person.
3. Pre-assessment questionnaires
Before your appointment, we’ll send you two health questionnaires to complete. This helps provide helpful background information and supports a more informed and focused consultation.
4. Payment
If you’re using private medical insurance, please get in touch with your insurer in advance to obtain authorisation. We’ll need your policy details before we can complete your registration. Once confirmed, we’ll invoice your insurer directly. If you’re self-funding your assessment, full payment is due two working days before your appointment. You’ll receive an invoice from our billing partner, Trust Health, which can be paid by bank transfer or card.
5. The consultation
Your initial assessment will last between 45 and 60 minutes. You’ll be able to talk about your current symptoms and personal circumstances. Your consultant will review your medical and mental health history to create a comprehensive picture and develop a personalised treatment plan.
6. Treatment planning
We develop your treatment plan in collaboration with you, taking into account your needs, preferences, and goals. This might include medication, psychological support, or non-medical approaches to care.
7. Follow-up appointments
Follow-up appointments, which typically last up to 30 minutes, provide an opportunity to assess your progress, address any concerns, and adjust your treatment plan as necessary. Your consultant will continue to support you throughout your care.
“Dr Berg helped me a lot to improve my mental health. She is very understanding and very informed and I always feel that she understands exactly my described symptoms and emotions.”
